Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a pivotal component of the IB Diploma Core, designed to cultivate critical thinking among students. At its heart, TOK prompts learners to ask, "How do we know?" This inquiry challenges them to scrutinize the foundations of knowledge across various subjects and in the broader global context.
Our Grade 11 students have embarked on an inspiring exploration of TOK, delving into the core theme of 'knowledge and the knower'. Under the guidance of our dedicated TOK team, they are encouraged to reflect deeply on their own understanding and beliefs. Recently, students ventured beyond the classroom during our 'TOK and the City' day in Florence. Here, they encountered real-world manifestations of TOK, from dissecting the nuances between knowledge, belief, and opinion through anti-abortion posters to contemplating the influence of expertise on our consumption of knowledge at a currency exchange store.
Meanwhile, our Grade 12 seniors have completed their study of the Natural Sciences as a knowledge area. They've tackled profound topics like the ethical dimensions of scientific inquiry and the future boundaries of scientific knowledge. As they prepare to choose essay titles and embark on extensive research for their TOK essays, we eagerly anticipate supporting them through this enriching process.
Stay tuned as our students continue to unravel the complexities of knowledge, guided by critical inquiry and a thirst for understanding in TOK.
